The MPV is dead, they said. SUVs rule the world, they said. But here comes the 2025 XPENG X9, The MPV is dead, they said. SUVs rule the world, they said. But then, here comes the 2025 XPENG X9, making waves in Malaysia with all the flair of a fireworks display. It’s the kind of MPV you didn’t know you needed — until now.

Starting from RM269,800, the XPENG X9 is no bargain. However, it packs so much cutting-edge tech and luxury that most competitors seem outdated in comparison.

Performance and Charging: Fast and Efficient

Let’s start with performance. The XPENG X9 is built on the SEPA 2.0 Smart Electric Platform Architecture, which makes the vehicle stronger, safer, and more efficient. But that’s just the beginning.

The X9 features an 800V high-voltage silicon carbide (SiC) platform. As a result, you get super-fast charging. You can go from 10-80% in just 20 minutes. In short, it’s perfect for those on the go.

In terms of performance, the X9 accelerates from 0-100km/h in just 7.7 seconds. Not bad for an MPV, right? The 315hp and 450Nm of torque deliver a fun drive, despite its large size.

The X9 also boasts X-ALC smart thermal management, which ensures optimal performance, even in Malaysia’s hot climate.

Variants:

  • Standard Range 2WD Pro: 500km range, 283kW fast charging.
  • Long Range 2WD Pro/Pro Plus: 590km range, 317kW fast charging.

Comfort and Space: A Lounge on Wheels

Now, let’s talk about comfort. The XPENG X9 isn’t just an MPV; it’s a mobile lounge.

Inside, you’ll find zero-gravity reclining seats up front, designed to relieve fatigue. With 6-mode massages, these seats are the ultimate in comfort. First-row massage seats reduce lumbar strain, especially useful for those long family road trips.

As for space, the XPENG X9 is generous. It offers plenty of legroom and storage. There’s a massive boot that gives you 2,554L of cargo space when the third-row seats are folded. For reference, that’s enough space for seven carry-on suitcases. And that’s just the beginning.

Also, there’s a hot and cold electric refrigerator between the seats. It’s got a 10.8L capacity and can adjust from 0°C to 50°C.

Moreover, the intelligent 5-zone climate control system ensures every passenger is comfortable. You can set different temperatures for each seat. Talk about luxury!

Getting to the third row is a breeze. Thanks to the 1100mm electric sliding rail and 1315mm headroom, entering the back row is easy, even for taller passengers.

Third-Row Comfort:

The third-row seats are a rare treat. Each seat is powered, with adjustable headrests and backrests. These are features you won’t find in most MPVs.

Tech: Smarter Than Most Drivers

The XPENG X9 is loaded with technology. The Xmart OS in-car system makes the cockpit feel futuristic. It powers two giant screens: a 21.4-inch passenger entertainment screen and a 17.3-inch center screen.

With the XPENG app, you can check the vehicle status, lock and unlock doors, monitor tire pressure, and control the air conditioning remotely. The convenience is unmatched.

But that’s not all. The XPILOT ASSIST 2.5 system is an advanced driver assistance system, equipped with 27 sensors powered by NVIDIA’s Orin-X chipset. The system supports features like lane-keeping, adaptive cruise control, and emergency braking.

The only downside? Sometimes the user interface can feel a bit clunky. Navigating through menus could be smoother.

Build Quality and Safety: Rock Solid and Secure

The XPENG X9 isn’t just tech-filled; it’s built tough.

It uses the world’s first front and rear-integrated die-cast aluminium body, which gives it 46,000 Nm/deg torsional rigidity. This means it’s incredibly rigid and stable.

On top of that, the X9 uses an 83% high-strength steel-aluminium hybrid body and a 2,000 MPa safety cage, giving it exceptional strength and safety.

For your peace of mind, the X9 comes with six airbags as standard. In addition, it features 70.9L extra-large side curtain airbags that cover all three rows.

The Downsides: Minor Issues to Consider

Of course, no vehicle is perfect.

  • Roofline: The sleek design might limit headroom slightly, especially for taller passengers.
  • Interior: The dark interior might feel a bit claustrophobic, especially under the Malaysian sun.
  • UI/UX: The touchscreen menu system could use a little polish for better user-friendliness.

Despite these minor flaws, the XPENG X9 still offers a remarkable driving experience.

Verdict: Should You Buy It?

The XPENG X9 isn’t just another MPV; it’s a futuristic driving machine. It blends cutting-edge tech, comfort, and safety with a stylish design that turns heads.

While it has a few quirks, the XPENG X9 is a solid choice for those who want an advanced, comfortable, and safe MPV. If you’re looking for something that pushes the boundaries of what an MPV can do, the XPENG X9 is certainly worth considering.
